On Saturday, fire crews were called to a house in Hylton Road, Sunderland, to remove a tree that had fallen on to a house. Elsewhere, river levels on the Wear rose both in Sunderland and Durham.

In Seaham, two cars were damaged after the gable end of a house in Princess Street collapsed.

The weather conditions also played havoc with the weekend sporting fixture list, with many matches, including Sunderland RCA's Northern League fixture against Dunston UTS, a victim of the conditions.
