Success rates on care related courses at East Durham College ranked top amongst college’s around the north east region. The latest data shows that 97% of 19+ students successfully pass their courses in the care curriculum area, which includes childcare, adult care and healthcare, ranking the college first out of the 10 colleges, north of Teesside. Curriculum manager for care courses at East Durham College, Chris English, praised the hard work of the care team in securing this great achievement, “This is a really proud moment for the care team here at the college. The Mayor of Peterlee Mrs Mary Cartwright would like to invite you to a Christmas Carol Service with the GT Group Bandon Wednesday 14 December at 7pm in St. Cuthbert’s Church. Everyone welcome and tea and coffee will be served in the church hall after.

Peterlee Senior Citizen’s New Year Party will be held on Friday 6 January 2017 in Shotton Hall Banqueting Suites from 1pm until 4pm. Entertainment by Brian Dee, meal included soup & afternoon tea. An engineering apprentice, who studies at East Durham College, has scooped the top prize at a regional industry awards ceremony. Martin Clutterbuck, 23, from Durham, took top prize in the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year category at the North-East, Yorkshire and Humberside EEF Future Manufacturing Awards held last week at Harrogate’s Great Yorkshire Showgrounds. Alongside his studies at the college, Martin works for Newton Aycliffe-based engineering company Arlington Automotive who supply parts for the automotive industry, including Nissan and Bentley. They also took second place with another college engineering apprentice, and Breedon Group employee, Connor Duncan in the same category. They were competing in the largest area covered by the regional awards in the country and Martin is now up for the National Outstanding Apprenticeship award. Martin will take part in a presentation and interview day in Westminster in December. The award ceremony is at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London in January.
