FORGET the X Factor, young performers in South Tyneside are being offered the chance to prove they have the Elf Factor.

Bosses at the Customs House will hold open auditions to fill the one remaining role for their Christmas show, Santa’s Naughty Elf and The Magic Sleigh Ride.

The role up for grabs is Bronte – the head of Santa’s library who will take a central role in the storyline.

The play, written especially for under sevens, catches up with Elfluent the elf, who has taken Santa’s sleigh for a ride without asking permission.

Pride of South Tyneside young performer winner Lauren Waine, 16, also stars as Elfluena.

The Northumbrian Water-sponsored show is an hour long and gives children the chance to meet Father Christmas and receive a gift.

Writer Wayne Miller, who also plays Elfluent, said: “The actor originally scheduled to play the role is sadly no longer able to perform, so we need a new Bronte.

“The Customs House has a long-standing tradition of offering talented performers from South Tyneside the chance to star in professional shows and this was an ideal opportunity to continue that.”

Auditions – which will include a reading and a vocal solo – will take place on Saturday, November 19, from 11am at The Cave in Captain’s Row, South Shields.

The casting call for the role is a female aged between 16 and 18, previous stage experience (whether professionally or with a stage school) and a chorus level singing ability.

Applicants must be daily between Saturday, December 10, and Friday. December 24.
