FLYING letters from a landmark sign injured a passerby when she was struck in the leg.
The pensioner was walking past The Bridges car park tower next to TK Max in Sunderland city centre when high winds caused part of the shopping centre’s sign to fall to the ground.
The OAP was hit on the leg by part of the sign and left with minor injuries.
Members of the public and a security guard from the shopping complex assisted the woman, whose shin was bleeding.
The letters B, R, D and G are currently all missing from the sign.
Andy Bradley, centre director at The Bridges, confirms: “Part of our car park signage became dislodged as a result of the strong winds and unfortunately a pedestrian suffered minor injuries as a result following Wednesday’s incident.
“We have since secured the signage and carried out an inspection on all other signage across the centre.”
