Pensioner hit by car in Durham

Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident which left an elderly lady with serious injuries after she was struck by a car at a busy shopping centre.

The incident happened at 5.10pm on Friday, October 2, outside the Subway sandwich shop at the Arnison Centre on the outskirts of Durham.

A Toyota Aygo car collided with an 83-year-old woman on the pedestrian crossing by the store.

The victim, who is from Stanley, was left with a number of fractures and a deep cut to her right arm and was detained in the University Hospital North Durham.

The car driver, a 39-year-old woman from Chester-Le-Street was uninjured.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call police on 101.
