THERE is no let-up in the wave of patriotism sweeping Wearside.
After the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, flag-waving residents in Pennywell have been serving up a treat for their neighbours.
Families living in Parkhurst Road, Pennywell, organised a host of fund-raising fun to help raise cash for a cause close to their hearts.
“We did cakes sales, tombolas, raffles, all sorts of things,” said Janice Sykes, who was part of the party organising committee.
“We raised £1,200 for the party, so it was a very good day.”
Now the group is to donate the remainder of the money to an Armed Forces charity.
“We had been saying from the start that we would donate anything left over to Help for Heroes,” said Janice.
“We have got £700 to donate.”
