A WOMAN was taken to hospital after she was injured in a two-car crash at a busy junction.
The 53-year-old was a passenger in a Nissan Qashqai when it was involved in a collision with a Ford KA at the crossroads between Toward Road and Peel Street in Hendon.
Firefighters from Fulwell and Sunderland Central Fire Stations and paramedics were called to the junction at 11.20am today.
The crews worked together to help the woman onto a stretcher after she complained of leg, back and chest injuries, but they were not thought to be serious.
She was taken to Sunderland Royal as a precautionary measure.
The men who had been driving the cars were unhurt in the accident.
The firefighters made the Ford safe by disconnecting its battery and cleared the road of debris.
