CHILDREN are celebrating a dream come true after four years of fund-raising for a new play park.
Early years play equipment has been installed at South Hetton Primary School after pupils, staff and families joined forces to collect £23,000 to pay for the area.
Sunderland AFC mascots Samson and Delilah joined the youngsters for a celebration day to unveil the new park.
The elder children were also given a chance to put it to the test, as a thank you for the help they have given to the project.
The playground includes a shelter, giving children somewhere to escape the sun on hot days as well as drizzle, a rock climbing section, poles, slide, a stage area and a xylophone, with safety flooring also included in the design.
The money for the project was raised through sponsorship events, including a sing song.
The school has sent its thanks to all those who helped back the campaign.
