SPORTS lovers who missed out on tickets can catch the Olympics at a big screen viewing in Mowbray Park.
The free three-day marathon starts today and will show all the events taking place over the three day period, including archery and volleyball.
The screen will be showing games from 10am to 10pm, and will culminate with the 100 metres final on Sunday evening.
Councillor Mel Speding, cabinet secretary for Sunderland Council, said: “The London 2012 Olympic Games is one of the largest sporting events in the world.
“The council has organised a variety of different sporting and cultural events as part of our Sunderland in 2012 programme to celebrate the games, and this has been met with terrific enthusiasm from the people of Sunderland.
“They have really thrown their weight behind Team GB, and the big screen in Mowbray Park is another chance to really join in the excitement of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
“There will be a fantastic party atmosphere ,so we are encouraging people to pack a picnic and come along and enjoy it with their family and friends. “As with all of the events in the Sunderland in 2012 programme, we’ve looked to make this affordable for people to enjoy, so entry is free.”
The weekend schedule includes badminton, beach volleyball and fencing on Saturday, and basketball, boxing and diving on Sunday.
