Penshaw Monument will be lit up in the colours of the French flag tonight.

The monument will be illuminated in the red, white and blue of the Tricolour from dusk this evening until dawn tomorrow.

Sunderland City Council staff and buildings have taken part in a minute​’s silence that was being held across Europe at 11am.

As a mark of respect and expression of solidarity, all Whitehall government departments have lowered their Union Flags to half-mast.
