LITTLE Archie William Harper has thousands of reasons to try to become a Premier League superstar.
The Fulwell youngster is being christened tomorrow, and his doting godfathers Paul Morgan and Jordan O’Neill hope he’ll end up a professional footballer.
The pals, friends of Archie’s dad Daniel, have placed £25 bets that Archie will one day become a Sunderland or Chelsea first-team player.
Should 10-month-old Archie take to the field for the Blues, he will pocket £25,000 after he got odds of 1,000/1.
Alternatively, should he be selected for SAFC, he will get £18,750 after Paul and Jordan were given odds of 750/1 by bookmaker William Hill.
Paul, 30, who went to Monkwearmouth School with Daniel, and Jordan, said: “Daniel’s family are all mad Chelsea fans and his mam’s are all Sunderland people, so it’ll be interesting to see who he picks to play for if he has to make that choice one day.
“He’ll be going to Monkwearmouth School, where ex-Sunderland players Martin Smith and Michael Proctor went, and Leon Ryan, who played for Whitley Bay, so maybe that will have something to do with it.
“If he does make it, he’ll get all the money, so I’m considering having a word with Gus Poyet to see if he’ll agree to give him a few seconds on the pitch as a substitute.
“There’ve been other bets like this that have come off. There’s a young lad at Liverpool called Harry Wilson whose granddad bet he’d play for Wales one day and it happened last year.
“So fingers crossed, one of these bets does too.”
