OLYMPIC rings now adorn the hillside at Herrington Country Park in preparation for the weekend’s torch relay spectacle.
The five hoops, which represent the five continents, have taken pride of place on a hill at the Penshaw park as Sunderland gears up to see the Olympic Flame pass through on Saturday.
Councillor Mel Speding, cabinet secretary for the city council, said: “There are just days to go until the inspirational torchbearers take their moment to shine and carry the Olympic Flame through Sunderland, and the eyes of the world will be on the city.
“The Olympic rings will form a fantastic backdrop at Herrington Country Park, as Sunderland celebrates this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
There will be a weekend of events at Herrington Country Park, which will include live music, sport and a food festival.
