COLLEAGUES trekked 26 miles for a charity challenge.

Thirteen employees from npower’s Rainton House base in Houghton and Peterlee office walked along Hadrian’s Wall in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, the company’s charity partner.

The challenge was part of a campaign to mark a decade of Macmillan and npower working together, which has raised more than £8million,

More than £4,200 was added to that total, thanks to the Hadrian’s Wall challenge.

The firm’s 10 for 10 campaign aims to raise £150,000, which the energy supplier has vowed to match.

Thirteen Wearside staff walked for 12 hours along the 1,892-year-old wall joined by about 50 other npower employees from across the UK and friends and family.

Jordan Reed, a customer service adviser with npower, said: “It was hard going and quite draining, so I was pleased to reach the finish line.

“Macmillan has played a big part in my life and the lives of those around me, so I wanted to give something back for the selfless work they do.”

Clare McDougall, head of community at npower, said: “Macmillan means a lot to the people of npower, and the fact that we’ve already raised over £85,000 this year is testament to that.” Part of the money will go towards funding new advisers on the Macmillan Support Line, who can refer people struggling with bills to the partnership’s Fuel Management Programme.
