The North East is set to enjoy a sunny weekend as the country as a whole looks forward to the hottest Spring Bank Holiday in almost a century.

According to the Met Office, temperatures are set to reach as high as 22C in the North East, which is expected to be warm for at least the next week.

The Met Office figures show that on Friday, temperatures are set to reach 21C, with a low figure of 12C during the night.

On Saturday, those temperatures are set to be 22 and 12 respectively, while on Sunday, it will be 18 and 11.

Bank Holiday Monday will see temperatures reach as high as 17C, with a low figure of 9C through the night.

Temperatures across the UK could reach as high as 33C over the weekend, according to reports in the national media, with the 32.8C May record having the potential to be broken.
