North East’s top for accidents

Have your say

THE North East’s safety record is worse than the national average, according to a charity.

St John Ambulance has pointed to figures from the Health and Safety Executive, which puts the region’s rate for major and fatal injuries at 117.6 per 100,000 employees in 2010/11, above the national average of 100.4.

Statistics show there were six fatal injuries and 1,199 major injuries in the period.

In a bid to cut the rates, St John Ambulance is offering a discount of £150 off every IOSH Managing Safely course to businesses that book before June 30 this year.

The courses normally cost £750.

It asks businesses to quote the code NEMS2 on booking.
