No plans to reschedule seafront firework shows as organisers plan to make Christmas parade a sparkler
South Tyneside Council, which teamed up with the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park to run Sunday’s event, says there are no plans to reschedule the South Shields seafront shows.
Thousands were left disappointed when the two displays were called off due to high winds on Sunday evening.

Hide AdA council spokesman said: “We have a good relationship with the company that arranges the fireworks displays. “The fireworks that can be salvaged will be used to enhance the display at this year’s Camel Parade on Friday, December 2.
“We recognise the disappointment caused by the cancellation of the event but hope the weather is on our side next month when people can look forward to a spectacular display at the Camel Parade as part of our Christmas events line-up.”
South Tyneside Events told Facebook followers a final check found conditions were too dangerous.
Angela Little, writing on the Gazette’s Facebook page, said: “All the people complaining, what if wind had swept a firework at your child?

Hide Ad“They can’t make a decision on the weather six hours in advance, it’s a free event.
“If you spent the day down there that’s your call, just unfortunate.”
Joanne Moore added “Definitely the right decision but would have been good to have been notified sooner.
“Especially after disappointing the kids and trailing them out in the cold unnecessarily.”
