Nissan pays tribute to man found dead in the street

Bosses of a man found dead in a village street have paid tribute to their worker.

Lee Woodward was found in Don View, West Boldon, early on Tuesday morning.

It is understood the tragedy happened the day after his mother’s funeral.

Mr Woodward, who worked at Sunderland’s Nissan factory, was a former South Tyneside College student and Boldon School pupil.

He also played cricket for Boldon Community Association.

Today, bosses at the car manufacturing plant paid tribute to Mr Woodward.

A Nissan spokesman said: “Lee had worked at Nissan since 2015 and was a highly regarded member of staff.

He added: “Lee was a lovely lad. He was quiet in many ways."

Northumbria Police say the body of a man was discovered after they received a call from a member of the public just before 6.30am on Tuesday.

Police say there is believed to be no third-party involvement in the death and a report is now being prepared for the coroner.
