DURHAM Fire Brigade’s mountaineering firefighters have raised more than £3,000 for charity.
The brigade’s Fire and Ice team, which has climbed peaks around the world, held a black tie cabaret ball at the Ramside Hall Hotel to raise cash for local charities.
The Olympic-themed event, which also included competitions, an auction and raffle, raised £3,500.
Organiser John Robson said: “The Fire and Ice team also provided a series of interesting and highly-amusing unusual Olympic events, such as unsynchronised dancing, unconventional field events and alternative floor gymnastics.
“The photographs on display in the reception areas included not only the high-altitude mountainous areas the team climb around the world, but also the good work achieved with local charities and schools.
“The Fire and Ice team will donate all proceeds to local charities at their annual charity giveaway evening in October, when guests will have the opportunity to listen to the team’s adventures and view the wonderful high-altitude photographs.”
