NATIONAL Trust sites in the region have been visited by a record number of tourists.

Despite the economy still being in a slump and hard times for many financially, the trust says more than 900,000 people went to its pay-for-entry locations, which include Washington Old Hall, between March 2011 and February this year.

The number represents a 12 per cent rise on the previous year.
