Mystery flowers appear to brighten day of workers

A mystery well-wisher has laid out a message in the hope of giving people passing through a city spot a smile.

Elvet Bridge in Durham was covered in carnations by a group calling itself LVN.

In a message, it said: "The bridge was covered in a sea of flowers today urging the public to take a flower to give thanks.

"So far flowers have been given to university tutors, cafe workers and library attendants, remembering those people who are so often take for granted and forgotten.

"By encouraging spontaneous act of kindness, the display hopes to revive a sense of togetherness in the town, removing a barrier between students and locals."

The message was sent to the Echo under the name Dante Alighieri, a 13th century Italian poet.
