A DEVOTED son has organised a pop and rock music night in his father’s memory after seeing him battle liver cancer.

Tonight’s event is the brainwave of Alex Shenton-Parkin, 20, a former music student at Sunderland College, and is dedicated to his dad Steve Shenton, who died earlier this year, aged 56, at St Benedict’s Hospice in Monkwearmouth.

Alex, from New Herrington, has enlisted the help of music students at the college’s Shiney Row Campus, who will perform hits by The Killers, David Bowie and Primal Scream.

“My dad had a huge influence on me and my love of music,” he said.

The event at Gatsby, Park Lane, starts at 7pm. Admission costs £3 and money raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
