AN MP has given her backing to a supermarket’s charity drive.
Roberta Blackman-Woods, Labour MP for Durham City, visited her local branch of Sainsbury’s to support its official fund-raising day.
She dropped in to the outlet at the Arnison Centre to help boost the coffers of Durham and Chester-le-Street Carers Support, the store’s chosen charity for the year.
“I was delighted to help raise awareness of Carers Support and the fantastic work it does across Durham and Chester-le-Street,” she said. “To be a carer can be both exhausting and emotionally stressful and, therefore, incredibly demanding.
“The advice and assistance offered to those who need it makes such a difference.
“Carers really are the unsung heroes in our community.”
The MP chatted with volunteers and store staff during her visit.
