Drivers faced long delays after a road crash led to a busy Wearside route being sealed off.
The westbound carriageway of the A1231 in Sunderland was closed off by police after a two car collision on the route this afternoon.
Police say nobody is thought to have been seriously injured in the road smash - but drivers are being hit by traffic hold-ups.
Police and fire crews were called to the A1231, just after the A19 turn off, shortly after 12pm today.
The road has now been re-opened.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At 12.07pm, police were informed about a collision on the westbound carriageway of the A1231, just after the A19 turn off.
"The carriageway is currently closed while the incident is being dealt with.
"It does not appear anyone has been seriously injured at this stage."
