More strange lights seen in Wear skies

Sunderland mum Neala Fenton wasn't the only Wearsider to see strange things in the Sunderland sky recently.

Since the Echo told Neala's story of a strange light overhead in the early hours of Monday morning a number of people have contacted us about similar sightings.

And thousands of people have logged on to to see for themselves her mobile phone film of the event.

Mum-of-four, Neala Fenton, 26, was pacing the floor in the early hours rocking her baby son, Brandon, back to sleep when she looked out of the window and spotted a strange light overhead in the night sky.

The New Herrington housewife said: "It was like nothing I have ever seen. It was bouncing around and there were different coloured bright lights coming from it."

But, Neala, who is also mum to Charlotte, seven, Ashleigh, two, and 18-month-old Sarah, wasn't the only one to see something unusual in the sky.

Janet and Robert Wheatley said they both saw a strange light over the skies of Seaburn during the same night.

Janet, 73, said: "I got up about 2.30am and looked out of the window and saw this extraordinary bright light. I tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't stop thinking about it so woke my husband to take a look.

"Neither of us could work out what it was. It wasn't making a sound or moving so it wasn't a plane or helicopter and it was far too low to be a star.

"It was very strange and the light was so bright. Someone else I know said they had seen it at about 5.30 on the same morning. It was very strange."

For Robert the sighting brought back memories of more than 30 years ago when he first saw something strange in the sky.

Janet said: "He came in one day and said he had seen a strange object with flashing lights. Shortly after it was on the news that a number of people had spotted things in the sky."

Another resident, who didn't want to be named, said at 5.15 on the same morning when she got up to let the cat out she too saw a very strange bright light in the sky.

The Whitburn pensioner said: "It wasn't a helicopter or a plane. It was very large and too low down to be a star.

"Both me and my husband said we hadn't seen anything like it before. Then the following morning I saw it again in the same place. It seemed to be over the sea."
