THE gold rush has continued for a Sunderland martial arts club.
Fighters from The Dungeon, in Castletown, who specialise in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, returned from the inaugural UK Checkmat Inter Club Championships in London with seven gold medals.
They then added another gold closer to home, at the Gateshead Open, along with the five silver and two bronze medals also won at the two events.
Raiders even travelled north of the border to bring home two silvers and a bronze from the Glasgow Open.
The haul comes after eight fighters claimed UK championships earlier in the year, while another took a European crown.
The little club’s incredible year is far from over, with fighters entered in a number of competitions in the coming weeks and coach Aaron Naisbett is hopeful the success can continue.
He said: “We’re bringing some really good lads through now.
“In the recent competitions, the youngest fighter we had was 18 while the oldest was in his 40s.”
