SURPRISED commuters and shoppers became an unsuspecting audience to a singing and dancing flash mob at Park Lane Interchange.

The 25-strong gang sang and performed a choreographed routine to the 90s club classic, The Key, The Secret, to promote Go North East’s new Key Smartcard.

The mob had the crowd clapping and tapping along before heading off to serenade passengers at other locations.

Commercial director Martin Harris said: “We wanted a launch that would involve and entertain our customers and the lively and spontaneous performances will do exactly that.

“The new smartcard is here now and ready to use.”

The Key replaces normal paper tickets and allows passengers to buy tickets online, rather than rummage for change.

Martin added: “We expect The Key to be adopted quickly by passengers as they enjoy the benefits of smartcard travel.

“With 20,000 customers having already registered their interest, The Key is proving to be a hit and we hope to see more passengers switch to smarter travel in the next few months.”
