Missing teenager: Lifeboat crews search river for Sunderland 18-year-old who went missing on Christmas Day

LIFEBOAT crews joined the search for a missing man in Sunderland.

Both of Sunderland RNLI’s inshore lifeboats were called to the River Wear, by the Queen Alexandra Bridge, at about 6.30am on Christmas Day.

Police were looking into reports of a missing 18-year-old, who was last seen near the bridge at 2.30am on Christmas Eve.

Senior helmsman Paul Nicholson said the search was called off after about 30 minutes.

Investigations by Northumbria Police are ongoing.
