SOME Metro services will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday to allow for modernisation work.
A replacement bus service, number 900, will be in operation during the line closure and will call at or near all Metro stations between Wallsend and Tynemouth.
Passengers in the affected area are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to buy their Metro ticket from the ticket machines.
The line closure is part of the Nexus £385million Metro: All Change modernisation programme.
It will allow track and technology to be replaced safely by engineers.
Ken Mackay, director of rail and infrastructure for Nexus said: “This work is vital for Metro’s future.
“Closing lines for short periods allows us to work safely with the minimum inconvenience to passengers.”
Richard McClean, managing director of Metro operator DB Regio, said: “We shall be providing a frequent and reliable bus service so that passengers can still get where they need to with as little delay as possible.”
