Metro services back on track after days of disruption

Metro services are back up and running normally after days of distruption.

Services between Pelaw and South Hylton had been suspended since overhead cables came down on Sunday night during Storm Desmond.

However, Network Rail, which owns and manages the line, drafted in extra resources to bring the reopening of forward.

Repairs began on Tuesday night and continued throughout Wednesday and services were back on line early this morning.

A spokesman for Tyne and Wear Metro, said: "Services are running to all destinations. Work by Network Rail to replace the overhead line between Pelaw and Sunderland was completed overnight and trains are now able to operate as normal on this route."
