RUNNING hero Mark Allison has braved the gales to launch the gruelling training for his latest cross country challenge.
The County Durham dad-of-one last month revealed his latest feat is to run across Australia in just 70 days.
The 40-year-old, from Shotley Bridge, plans to cross from west to east, covering 2,600 miles in aid of St Benedict’s Hospice in Sunderland.
Hitting the road in Perth on October 16, 2013, he hopes to arrive at Bondi Beach, Sydney, on Christmas Eve.
And, incredibly, he will take on the challenge during the blazing heat of the Australian summer, where “outback” temperatures regularly top 50˚C.
The former Northern Rock worker said: “The party is over, my running shoes are calling my name.”
