A MAN was airlifted to hospital after a grinding machine sliced his leg open.
The 47-year-old is believed to have been doing DIY at his Hetton home when the accident happened.
The Great North Air Ambulance attended the scene and dressed the wound before flying the man to hospital.
He received treatment to the non-life-threatening injury at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The incident took place on Saturday and the man remains in a stable condition.
