THE body of a man has been pulled from the River Wear.
Police and firefighters were called to the top end of the Riverside Park area of Chester-le-Street at 1.45pm today (MAY 8) after a passerby called to say they had seen the body floating in the water.
Durham Constabulary said its officers and other members of the emergency services were on the scene within minutes.
The fire service has recovered the body from the river.
A force spokesman said: “At this stage it is too early to speculate how old the deceased is or how long they have been in the water.”
Further details are expected to be released in coming days.
