Man rescued from Sunderland bridge

A DISTRESSED man was talked down from the Wearmouth bridge.

Police were called to the bridge in the early hours of Sunday morning, after the man was spotted on the outside of railings.

Volunteers from Sunderland RNLI were also called into action.

The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched at 1.20am.

Police negotiators managed to talk the 20-year-old down after about 40 minutes.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
