Man rescued from River Wear in Sunderland City Centre

A MAN has been taken to hospital after being pulled out of the River Wear in Sunderland City Centre.

Emergency services including police and Humber Coastguard were called to the area around Wearmouth Bridge at 11.01am on Wednesday.

The man was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary by helicopter. The extent of his injuries is not known, but he is said to have been conscious.
