A MAN was rescued after falling into the River Wear.
The incident, at the Fish Quay in the East End of Sunderland, happened at 2.45pm yesterday.
Witness Zoe Cooper, 19, watched as emergency services rushed to save the man.
She said: “There were ambulances there with their lights flashing and people in high-vis jackets.
“I could see them pulling somebody out of the river. It was pretty dramatic.”
Neil Mearns, from Sunderland Coastguard, said: “It was reported that a 33-year-old man from the area, had fallen into the River Wear
“Three people near to the river, who had been working near by were able to get the man to the nearby steps.”
