A MAN was taken to hospital after his car crashed into a bill board.
Emergency services attended the collision on the A182 in Philadelphia, Houghton, at the junction of Success Road and Shop Row, which took place shortly before 7.10pm.
The driver, a 43-year-old man, is thought to have had a “medical episode” which caused him to lose control of the car.
The Vauxhall Insignia careered off the road, knocked a lamp post out of the ground and collided with the advertisement board.
Two fire appliances, one from Rainton Bridge station and one from North Moor, attended the accident near The Philadelphia pub.
Fire crews cut the roof from the saloon car to free the driver which took about 35 minutes.
He was then taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital to be checked over.
A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said the man isn’t thought to have any major injuries.
