Man in court over Roker Park rape inquiry

Adam Leslie Martin, of Joan Avenue, Ryhope, has been charged with rape.

He has appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court.

The 19-year-old was remanded until his next appearance, which is expected to be at Newcastle Crown Court in the New Year.

Police launched an investigation following a report expressing concern for a woman in Roker Park Road made on Tuesday, shortly before 5.30am.

A section of the park was cordoned off as inquiries began.
