Man hospitalised after Sunderland assault

A man suffered head injuries after being attacked in a Sunderland street.

The 41-year-old victim was assaulted in Hendon by a man and a woman who then made off in a silver coloured car.

He was rushed to Sunderland Royal Hospital suffering from head injuries and has since left hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 18, in St Ignatius Close.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.
