A MAN had to be cut free from a car after it overturned.
A silver Vauxhall Corsa was travelling on the slip road from the northbound A19 to the A1018 Ryhope road when it flipped on to its driver’s side at 11.30pm yesterday.
The car came to rest on the nearside verge 500metres from the junction.
While the driver, a man in his early 30s, managed to get out, his passenger was trapped in the wreckage.
The man, thought to be in his late 40s, was cut free after the car was stabilised by firefighters.
He was then put onto a spinal board, as he had complained of back injuries, and taken to Sunderland Royal by ambulance for treatment.
