A MAN suffered minor injuries after a chip pan fire in Washington.

Crews from Washington and Birtley fire stations were called to a bungalow in Wenlock, Biddick, at 3pm on Saturday.

Fire crews put out the flames, which were confined to the pan, but the bungalow suffered heavy smoke damage to the kitchen.

The occupants had got out before firefighters arrived, but were given oxygen as a precaution, and a man was treated for burns to one of his fingers.
