THE River Wear is getting a spring clean as part of a national event.
The Environment Agency and Durham County Council have teamed up to support this year’s annual Litter Free Durham Big Spring Clean.
A clean-up of the river in the county will take place tomorrow to reduce the risk of flooding and improve the appearance of the waterway.
The council will help collect any debris and litter and take it to be safely disposed or recycled where possible.
Coun Gerald Lee, chairman of Litter Free Durham, said: “I am delighted and thank the Environment Agency and local authorities for supporting this.
“By removing rubbish from our rivers we are working to help make the North East an even better place to live.”
