PR AGENCY M.A.D Communications has taken gold at a prestigious business awards ceremony.

The company, set up by MA students Marie Donnelly, Samantha Kelly and Amy Armstrong, was named overall category winner at the University of Sunderland Blueprint Business Planning Competition 2013.

Having won the monthly competition in May, M.A.D Communications then fought off tough competition to be named overall winners of the “One to Watch” category at the final awards dinner which was held at the Roker Marriott Hotel.

Twenty-four-year-old Marie admitted she had been shocked by the results.

She said: “The standard of entries was so high, and there was so much talent in our category that it was an honour just to be nominated.”

Samantha, 23, added: “Talent and creativity isn’t getting the attention it deserves. While groups and individuals shout about their work, their voice isn’t always loud enough.

“And this is where M.A.D Communications has found a gap in the market. We are committed to putting them in the spotlight and getting them the attention they deserve.”

Winners receive office space in the university’s Enterprise Building, expert guidance from mentors, and a financial prize.

Amy said: “Winning the Blueprint award is a massive step forward for us.

“The help and guidance we have received has been invaluable to us and obviously the financial prize has been very much appreciated as well.

“It’s so nice to know that other people believe in our business as much as we do”.

M.A.D Communications will be representing the University of Sunderland in the Regional Blueprint Business Planning Competition Final on September 18.
