Lucy Porter brings her show to Gala Theatre Durham
Funny girl Lucy Porter looks at our obsession with gold as part of her new tour.
The comedian's critically-acclaimed show Fools Gold will be coming to the Gala Theatre, Durham, as part of a nationwide tour.
Fools Gold takes in the entire history of this precious metal, starting in the ancient world, deciphering hieroglyphics and examining the myth of King Midas.
The show looks at those who love gold – rappers and Jimmy Savile mainly – and those who have reason to hate it.
One example is Fritz Haber, the scientist who developed a process for extracting gold from seawater and nearly bankrupted Germany because the extraction process cost more than the gold was actually worth.
As the title Fool's Gold suggests, Lucy also gives the audience her personal take on gold – why she's allergic to wedding rings and what she really values instead of gold.
