THE number’s up for lucky neighbours Amy Wilson and Nicola O’Neil after they shared a £100,000 payout from the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The pair, from Calais Road, Castletown, picked up the cash after their post- code – SR5 3RR – came up trumps.

Playing with two tickets, Amy Wilson, 30, and partner David Haswell scooped £66,666, as well as the keys to a new BMW 1 Series.

“This is the best thing that has happened,” said lettings agency worker Amy.

“It just doesn’t feel real. I started playing because David’s mum played and she had won a couple of thousand pounds, so I thought why not.

“I have always wanted a BMW. I am absolutely delighted to have won it, it’s incredible.

“We’ve also just taken in a rescue dog, a staffy-border cross called Harley, and the insurance for him had been so much that I thought, ‘Oh perhaps if we won, it would pay for that’. Who knew it would be so much more.”

The couple plan to use part of the winnings to pay off bills, share some with the family, and donate to the kennel they got Harley from.

The couple will also be making sure they keep their hands on their new BMW 1 Series. Nicola picked up the remaining £33,333 for her one ticket.

The call centre team leader was left “speechless” when she realised how much she and fiancé James Gudgion, a plumbing and heating engineer, had won.

“I never, ever thought I would win this kind of money, it is such a shock,” she said.

“And it just couldn’t have come at a better time – it’s such a weight off our shoulders.”

Nicola, 27, and James will be jetting off to Cuba for two weeks next June to get married in their dream location and celebrate with friends, family and three-year-old son, Joe.Winning with People’s Postcode Lottery means that the couple can also put down a deposit on a new house and extend their family.

“We want to have another child, so we need to find a bigger house,” said Nicola.

“And we’ll definitely be staying here – we absolutely love the area, it’s so quiet and friendly. Let’s just hope we can keep in the lucky postcode.”

“It was such a pleasure to hand over life-changing cheques to Nicola and Amy,” said the Postcode Lottery’s Judie McCourt.

“I really hope the wedding goes well for Nicola and James. And I’m sure that Amy will love driving her long-desired BMW around Sunderland.

“What’s more, it’s thanks to players like Amy and Nicola that over £25.6million has been raised for such fantastic causes that are making a difference right here in Sunderland.”
