BIG-HEARTED people who have made a difference in their communities are being sought.
Durham County Council is looking for individuals or organisations that have done something great for their community to be put forward for the Chairman’s Medal.
The Chairman’s Medal is presented to individuals and groups to recognise significant achievement and outstanding effort in all walks of life.
It is the council’s highest honour and Area Action Partnerships are looking for nominations from across the county in the run-up to a major presentation event next year.
Durham County Council Chairman, Linda Marshall, will be holding a ceremony in February to award individuals for voluntary effort or outstanding organisations.
Coun Marshall said: “There are so many unsung heroes in County Durham who do things for their community that can go unnoticed.
“I want this presentation event to be a celebration of the achievements and effort that people of our county put in every day – a little time to reflect on the excellent work that people do for each other.
“I am keen also to try to enhance this event by making links with the Jubilee, Olympic and Paralympic celebrations.”
The deadline for nominations is January 4. Completed forms should be sent to the Chairman’s Office, Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham DH1 5UF.
