Women are ready to race for life
Thousands of women were today getting in some last- minute training in time for this year's Race for Life.
Running to raise cash for Cancer Research UK, they will be lining up at Herrington Country Park tomorrow for the big event.
Runners include Sunderland mum Jeanette Clennell, 44, who was diagnosed with a rare form of throat cancer, leaving her living on a diet of nutrition drinks and mashed banana.
Jeanette, of Town End Farm, will be taking part with daughter Emma.
Organisers say the predicted good weather should make for a good turnout on the day. Close to 3,000 women are expected to take part in the 5km race.
They include staff and friends of Sunderland city centre law firm Longden Walker & Renney.
Cancer Research UK has been the firm's adopted charity for the last three years after senior partner Ken Stenger completed the London Marathon and raised more than 3,000.
But now it's the girls' turn as they take part in the all-female event.
Practice manager Michelle Winter said: "In recent years members of our firm and their families have been touched by this terrible illness.
"This is one way our girls feel they can contribute to the cause. We are all very proud of them."
