We're off to Wembley

SUNDERLAND'S 2018 World Cup bid has headed to Wembley.

A delegation travelled to London from the Stadium of Light early today to deliver the city's final bid document to England 2018.

Black Cats' chairman Niall Quinn and city council chief executive Dave Smith were joined by SAFC striker and England 2018 Ambassador Kenwyne Jones, council leader Coun Paul Watson and SAFC chief executive Steve Walton to deliver the bid document to officials at Wembley.

Accompanying the delegation are five lucky youngsters representing SAFC and partner clubs Middlesbrough FC, Darlington FC, Hartlepool United FC and Carlisle United FC, all part of Sunderland's bid.

Niall said: "It's an exciting day for the city, the club and the region as a whole.

"Our bid is about the people of this region and we are honoured to be representing them at Wembley today."

Coun Watson added: "There has been an unprecedented amount of work gone in to making our bid the very best it can be and I'm immensely proud of what has been achieved so far.

"The people of our region deserve this and we are doing everything we can to deliver World Cup football to the North East for them."

Sunderland will learn whether it has been chosen to be part of England's bid when the list of approved host cities is announced on December 16.
