Villa pop being shipped to China

Two Wearside icons are going East.

Double Maxim and Villa pop have been shipped to China in a bid to break into the world's biggest market.

City businessman Tim Finley is behind the deal – Tim's company Red Beverages specialises in exports to the Orient.

"We work with Double Maxim, Villa and other companies to try to help them to get their products into the Far East – particularly China," said Tim.

"We have been supplying Double Maxim for a year-and-a half but previously, it has just been a couple of pallets here and there. This is the first container we have sent out.

"Half the container is Double Maxim and half is Villa – as a local lad, it's great to have two such big Sunderland brands in the same delivery.

"Double Maxim is already selling really well in China and this is a trial for Villa. Hopefully, they will both be as successful as each other."

Tim hopes to introduce the Double Maxim Brewery's other brands into the Chinese market, too.

"We are looking at taking Maximus into China next, then probably Ward's Bitter," he said.

"The great thing about Double Maxim for the Chinese market is it's in red packaging and they also class it as a red beer."

Maxim commercial director Mark Anderson is excited at the prospect of breaking into China.

"It could be very big for us – potentially, it is a huge market," he said.

"And it was great to be sending it off on St George's Day."
