Trampolinists leap to finals

THE sky is the limit for youngsters at a Sunderland trampolining club who have qualified for the National Schools Finals.

Bradley Welsh, eight, Natalie Richie, 11, and Peter Evans, 17, of AAA Trampolining Club, Sandhill View Centre, Grindon, made it through the semi-finals in Hull this weekend.

Five members from the club took part and they were up against the best from the North, the North West and Northern Ireland.

Three members made it through to the national finals in Bristol to be held on March 14.

Coach Andi Revell, a British gymnastics coach for the whole of the North, said: "I am really proud and really happy for them.

"It's a great opportunity and such a big achievement to qualify.

"I hope they will enjoy the experience no matter how the competition works out on the day."

Andi believes Bradley, of Hill View, and Natalie, of Horden, Peterlee, have a great future ahead of them in Trampolining and he is confident, Peter, of Oakfield Close, East Herrington, could even have a place in the 2012 Olympics.

Peter has gone from strength to strength in his time at the club and this will be his second national competition in eight months

The Thornhill School pupil has qualified to grade two, which means he competes against some of the best trampolinists in the country.

Andi set up Triple A two years ago with 24 members. Today he has more than 150 with ages ranging from three to 65.

He said: "AAA Trampoline Club recreation sessions are open to participants of any age and ability and designed so people can enjoy the sport without the pressure of competitions.

"Each session comprises of a floor warm-up, coaching on the trampoline and free practice."

Coaching takes place in the Sandhill Centre, Hetton School, Raich Carter Centre and Dene Comprehensive, Peterlee.
