Three domestic violence attacks in 24 hours

Police have been called to a spate of domestic violence calls across Sunderland during the past 24 hours.

They arrested three men in connection with attacking their partners and were called out to six domestic-related incidents.

The flurry of calls comes as the Echo launched its Speak Out campaign, urging people to report abuse in the home.

A poll on the Echo website today reveals that 43 per cent of people quizzed have been affected by domestic violence, whether directly or by witnessing it.

During the next two weeks we will be speaking to those who have suffered at the hands of their abusers – the victims, the perpetrators and the witnesses.
